Lillian Hey, this is Lillian Yang. I'm the creator, producer and co-host of Food Non-Fiction. This podcasting adventure has been food for the soul. When I first decided to make my own podcast, it was like the stars had aligned.

All the random things that I had spent my time doing in the past all contributed to making it possible for me to create a podcast with my non-existent budget. My love of art led me to learn Photoshop, which helped me create the logo, my full time job as a web marketer helped me set up all the social media and create the website, my years of writing/recording music helped me write the jingle and my time as a Master's student helped me research and write material for the podcast.

As well, I met my co-host while I was in Neuroscience 501 at UBC.

Fakhri When Lillian and I met in Neuroscience 501 at UBC, I had just moved from the San Francisco Bay area so I could pursue my studies at UBC. I was still exploring the local food scene (as best as possible on a graduate student's budget) when Lillian invited me to go to one of her favourite lunch spots. At that meal we discussed our mutual love of food and adventurous eating.

Fast forward more than two years and Lillian asked me if I would like to be a part of her podcast. It sounded like a fun adventure and I immediately jumped at the chance to get involved. I was raised trying new, unusual foods from a variety of cultures and am fortunate to have two accomplished chefs in my family (though I do not share that talent). Between my travels, living near San Francisco, and now being in Vancouver, I have been able to continue trying food from all over the world.

My appreciation for good food is matched by my love of biology research. My years as a scientist have allowed me to develop an eye for finding up-to-date information and the best resources. This podcast allows me to explore unusual topics in food while spending time with a friend, why wouldn't I say yes?
